How I blogged our vacation
I had been using Posterous for about two months prior to our Cape Cod trip. I figured it would be cool to see if I could update it on our trip -- a "live" postcard.I knew the Sandpiper had Wi-Fi so that I could do some posting via email from my iPod Touch. I also had previously added my cellphone to my Posterous account so I could email pics directly from my phone (AT&T Samsung A767 Propel). Those were basically my tools: cellphone, Touch and Wi-Fi. Initially I emailed single or multiple pictures via SMS from my cellphone to Posterous. Then I found that it was better (quality-wise) to SMS the pics to my email account one at a time and then use my Touch to email the pics to Posterous. Thank you Wi-Fi. The PicPosterous app (iPod Touch application) became available over the weekend and that made it even easier to publish a photo gallery to Posterous. I actually replaced one post that I had previously done via SMS with one I did with PicPosterous, changing the post date and time to get it to fall where I wanted in my blog timeline. A few other things:
Having all the pics I took uploaded to Flickr automatically is a great bonus.
- I was able to use my cellphone's audio recording function to capture some audio of the kids playing a game and email that directly to Posterous, where it showed up in an embedded media player. Awesome! Wish I had thought of doing this earlier on the trip, would have been neat to have some more audio posts from the trip.
- Was able to email short video clips (crappy quality and small) to Posterous as well. I can see how having a more powerful cellphone (iPhone esp.) would make Posterous even more powerful.
